Carmel police & fire departments strengthen ongoing partnership

Carmel Fire Department has proudly partnered with Carmel Police Department for years in many ways. One of those partnerships includes providing a strong and dedicated SWAT Medic team.

Police Chief Drake Sterling (pictured at left) and Fire Chief Joel Thacker (pictured at right) recently came together to clearly define how the city’s SWAT-medics respond during SWAT incidents, their role, and equipment responsibilities of both agencies formalizing an important agreement: during SWAT call outs, CFD SWAT Medics will now serve as sworn Special Police Officers. This status not only offers legal protection but also outlines their operational authority on scene.

Thanks to the collaboration between CFD, CPD, City Administration, and City Legal resolutions, all five CFD SWAT Medics are now officially sworn in by the Board of Public Works.
