Carmel Mayor Jim Brainard attended a virtual meeting Wednesday afternoon with Dr. Anthony Fauci, Director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, Dr. Deborah Birx, White House Coronavirus Task Force Coordinator, and other senior federal public health officials through the U.S. Conference of Mayors (USCM).
Brainard is serving as a Trustee and Co-chair of the Energy Independence and Climate Protection Task Force for the USCM.
During the call, they discussed the vaccine rollout and other COVID-related issues. They reported on trends they are seeing in case numbers in various regions of the country and forecasted what may transpire in the coming weeks and months.
“Being able to hear firsthand the updates and take part in the planning and direction the country is taking regarding the pandemic is important during this ever-changing time,” Brainard said. “We need to have accurate and timely information as we move ahead. I look forward to continuing the conversation throughout the coming months as we re-emerge from the pandemic after more and more Americans get the vaccine. This is a time to stay vigilant and hopeful.”
