A New York Knicks fan was stabbed in the back during a fight at a Carmel bar, police say. One man has been arrested for attacking two Knicks fans.

On May 23 around 10:45 p.m., an employee of Danny Boy Beer Works called police saying someone had been stabbed on the back patio.

Officers arrived on scene and detained the suspect who was identified as 24-year-old Jarrett Funke.

Two injured men were on the back patio, each “bleeding profusely,” Carmel police say. One, who suffered a stab wound to the back, a broken rib, and a minor tear in the lung, was taken to the hospital. The other had a cut on his leg from falling.

The first victim told Carmel police that they were watching a basketball game when Funke started harassing them, smacking a New York Knicks hat off the first victim’s head.

According to the first victim, Funke’s father tried holding him back and employees asked him to leave. He initially argued, but then left. The two victims went outside to the patio to smoke.

The first victim said, about five minutes later, Funke “stormed through the fence.” The second victim said he showed his pocketknife to deter Funke, but put it away because he had no intention of using it. The victims say Funke then started attacking the second victim, and the first cut his leg on a stoop trying to pull them off of each other.

Funke told police that the second victim assaulted him first. He said that as he was leaving the bar, he could hear the two victims “talking [expletive].” Funke said he walked over to see what the problem was, saw that the second victim was holding a knife, and still approached.

Police asked why Funke had holes in his hoodie pocket, and he said they did come from his pocketknife but he didn’t remember how they got there. Funke told police, from what he could remember, he was on his back being punched. He took his pocketknife out and swung it toward the second victim’s back.

Funke is being held at the Hamilton County Jail as of Tuesday. He faces charges including battery by means of a deadly weapon and disorderly conduct.
