Carmel issues air quality alert

The City of Carmel has issued an advisory air quality alert as the air quality index as of noon on Wednesday was 133, which means the air is unhealthy for sensitive groups, but the general public is unlikely to be affected. Smoke from fires in the West and in Canada are being blamed for air quality issues throughout the eastern U.S.

“Sensitive individuals, including those with heart or lung disease, the elderly, and young should limit strenuous activities and the amount of time active outdoors until the numbers get better,” said Mayor Jim Brainard.

Under this alert, sensitive groups should choose less strenuous activities (like walking instead of running) so you don’t breathe as hard, shorten the amount of time you are active outdoors or wait and be active outdoors when air quality is better.
