Carmel High School has a new girls basketball coach.

The Greyhounds announced that Jessica Darmelio was named as the new coach, with the official announcement on Friday. Darmelio coached the past three seasons at her alma mater, Franklin College, from which she graduated in 2014.

“We are excited for Jessica to lead our program and work with our student-athletes. She has great energy and is ready to make an impact on our current Greyhounds and younger players in our school district,” said Carmel Athletic Director Jim Inskeep in a news release.

Darmelio began her coaching career at Clinton Prairie, where she compiled a 51-21 record in three seasons, 2015-18. She spent two seasons at Martinsville (2019-20), putting together a 37-11 record, then spent the 2020-21 season at Perry Meridian, leading the Falcons to an appearance in the sectional championship game.

After serving as an assistant coach at Marian University for the 2021-22 season, Darmelio was hired as the Franklin coach. She got the Grizzly Cubs moving in the right direction, as Franklin went from 8-15 during her first season to 17-10 in her second season. The Grizzly Cubs had another winning season in 2024-25, finishing 15-11.

Darmelio begins her coaching responsibilities immediately and will begin teaching at Carmel High School at the start of the new school year this fall.
