The Carmel girls basketball team got its first win of the season Tuesday, beating Westfield 43-33 at the Shamrocks’ CSI Gymnasium.
The Greyhounds toughed out an 8-5 lead after one quarter, then shut out Westfield 7-0 in the second period to take a 15-5 lead. Carmel expanded its advantage to 28-13 after three periods, then Taryn Fisher scored eight points in the fourth quarter to help the Greyhounds seal the victory.
Jamie Elliott and Hannah Lach both scored 10 points for Carmel, with Fisher adding nine. Fisher led the rebounding with six, while Elliott and Mackenzie Woods both collected five. Woods also handed out four assists.
Ellie Kelleher scored 10 points for the ‘Rocks. Aubrey Crockett pulled six rebounds and Emmrey Collinsworth had five steals.
The Greyhounds are 1-9 and play Saturday afternoon at Fort Wayne Snider. Westfield is 5-4 and hosts Zionsville Friday in a Hoosier Crossroads Conference game.
