Carmel girls cross country wins at Valley Kick-Off meet

The Carmel girls cross country team began its season last Saturday by winning the Valley Kick-Off meet at the LaVern Gibson Cross Country Course in Terre Haute.

The Greyhounds scored 37 team points, comfortably ahead of runner-up Lake Central’s 69 points. Carmel had five runners finish in the top 11 overall, with junior Sadie Foley leading the Hounds by placing second in a time of 19 minutes, 1.3 seconds. Lake Central’s Macey Thompson won the race in 18:58.6. Sophomore Larkin Taylor placed fifth for Carmel with a time of 19:16.2.

Westfield placed 15^th as a team with 510 points. Junior Izzy McCulloch led the Shamrocks with a time of 23:09.0, taking 103^rd.
