The Carmel girls lacrosse team cruised past Brebeuf Jesuit 19-3 on Wednesday, keeping the Greyhounds unbeaten at 5-0.
Carmel scored three quick goals, with Anna Dumke, Maddie McGarty and Sophia Hanna all getting one goal. The ‘Hounds led 14-1 at halftime.
Dumke and McGarty scored five goals each and both had one assist. Julia Cherubini, Hannah Kim and Tori Tomalia all scored two goals, while Reagan Fahey, Hanna and Savannah Frauhiger all scored one. Cherubini handed out three assists, with Kim, Fahey and Hanna each dishing out two.
Carmel’s boys team scored a 16-1 victory over Zionsville on Wednesday.
The Greyhounds led 3-0 after one quarter and 6-0 at halftime. Carmel’s offense got going even more in the third quarter, adding six more goals to take a 12-0 lead.
“Our defense looked great today,” said Greyhounds coach Jack Meachum. “We played with a lot of discipline and tenacity, never letting our opponent look comfortable. It was great to have junior Bryce Cannon back out there healthy, he and the rest of the defense looked great.”
In an earlier game, Carmel battled Forest Hills Central, one of the top teams in Michigan, on Saturday before falling 9-6. The Greyhounds had strong defensive play from Jack Huntington (three ground balls and three caused turnovers) and Charlie Marsh (three ground balls and two caused turnovers).
Hamilton Southeastern’s boys also dropped a close game to a top Michigan team, falling to Brother Rice 6-5 last Friday. EJ Reichert scored three goals for the Royals, with Max Blackburn and Nolan Knies both scoring one.
Southeastern came back on Saturday to beat Forrest Hills Central 8-5. Connor Runhow scored three goals, followed by Michael Metheny with two goals, and one each from Max Blackburn, Michael Mattaliano and Reichert.
