The Carmel girls basketball team hung on to get a highly satisfying Metropolitan Conference win over Pike Friday, 58-57, at the Eric Clark Activity Center.
The Greyhounds led 18-10 after the first quarter, then absorbed a Red Devil comeback to lead 32-28 at halftime. Carmel then held a 43-35 advantage after three quarters, then held firm as Pike made another comeback in the fourth.
Acting coach Erin Trimpe said she “was happy with the win.” Trimpe was glad to see her team never gave up and loved the help off the bench, but also said the Greyhounds would be working on free throws.
Reagan Hune led with 15 points, while Sophie Bair, Bridget Dunn and Kate Clarke all added 10 points. Dunn and Macy Berglund both collected eight rebounds, with Hune clearing six. Bair handed out five assists, Hune made four steals and Dunn had two blocked shots.
Berglund said she was excited to get the win against Pike for her first time; Carmel lost to Pike the previous two years and did not play the Red Devils during her freshman year. Berglund also said that to get the win at home on Senior Night “was even better.”
Carmel is 2-4 in the MIC and 11-9 overall. The ‘Hounds will finish the regular season on the road, playing at Cathedral on Tuesday and Ben Davis next Friday.
