The Carmel girls basketball team finished its regular season with a 71-49 victory over Ben Davis in a Metropolitan Conference game at the Eric Clark Activity Center.
The Class 4A No. 2 Greyhounds steadily built a 34-18 halftime lead, then put the game away by scoring 24 points in the third quarter. It was Carmel’s Senior Night, and two seniors led the way: Tomi Taiwo scored 20 points, including three 3-pointers, while Amy Dilk added 15 points.
Dilk did a little bit of everything, with six assists, four steals and four rebounds. Another senior, Blake Smith, pulled five rebounds in addition to scoring nine points.
The younger players also stepped up. Sophomore Jasmine McWilliams scored 10 points and made all eight of her free throws. Junior Reagan Hune added nine points and collected five rebounds.
Carmel finished MIC play at 5-2, tying it for second with Lawrence North. Overall, the Greyhounds are 22-2 and will await the winner of the Tuesday first-round game at Class 4A Sectional 8 at Fishers against Noblesville and Anderson. Carmel plays that winner in the Friday, Feb. 2 semi-finals.
