Carmel gets going early, but Lawrence Central earns win

The REPORTER

Carmel fell to Lawrence Central 17-14 Friday in the Greyhounds’ regular season finale at Carmel Stadium.

Carmel got the opening score after Nate Williams took the ball in from the one-yard line. Lukas Krishtanmoorthy kicked the extra point for a 7-0 Hounds lead. The Bears answered with a field goal, but Carmel got a last-second touchdown after Carson Mace caught a seven-yard throw from Anthony Coellner. Krishtanmoorthy’s kick gave the Greyhounds a 14-3 lead, and they would hold that advantage through halftime.

But LC began a comeback with a 90-yard punt return touchdown, cutting Carmel’s lead to 14-9 after three quarters. Terry Walker III then caught a go-ahead touchdown pass in the fourth period, then made a two-point run. The Bears held the lead from there.

Coellner was 22-of-30 through the air, totaling 192 yards. Williams made eight catches and Jacob Bellin had six catches.

The Greyhounds are 3-6 for the season. Carmel has next week off, then travels to Zionsville on Nov. 1 for the semifinals of Class 6A Sectional 3.
