Carmel scored about every possible way Friday in its Homecoming game against Lawrence North.
The Greyhounds took care of the Wildcats 38-14 in a Metropolitan Conference game at Carmel Stadium. The ‘Hounds improved to 2-1 in the MIC, and are now tied for second with Lawrence Central. Ben Davis continues to lead the conference with a 3-0 record.
Camari Hunt wasted no time getting Carmel on the board. Just 46 seconds into the game, Hunt zoomed 76 yards for the first touchdown of the contest. Hunt proved his versatility midway through the quarter, as he punched the ball in from the one-yard line to give the ‘Hounds another touchdown. Connor Coghlan made both extra-point kicks.
“Camari’s really starting to come into this own,” said Carmel offensive coordinator Scott Turnquist. “We’ve been pushing him constantly to really take things over and he’s done a really good job of challenging himself and answering what we’re asking him to do. I think that’s also bringing the rest of the tailbacks and the rest of our skill players along with him.”
The Greyhounds went into halftime leading 24-0. Dylan Downing added a second-quarter touchdown, and Coghlan booted a 41-yard field goal right at the end of the half.
Carmel’s other two touchdowns came in the fourth quarter: Jack Rodimel nabbed a nine-yard pass from Jake McDonald, and Mark Allen recovered a fumble in the end zone.
Hunt totaled 142 yards in 16 carries. McDonald was highly efficient, connecting on 18 of 23 passes for 181 yards. Atticus Clouse grabbed five receptions for 66 yards, with Hunt making five catches for 35 yards.
Carmel will travel to North Central next Friday.
