The Carmel Fire and Police Departments and the Carmel Advisory Committee on Disability has launched the Specific Response Registry Form. The registry is voluntary and is designed to provide advanced notice to emergency response personnel of a resident that may have difficulty leaving quickly in the event of an emergency or that may require a specific response due to a number of reasons. Those reasons can include physical, mental, medical, sensory or intellectual disability.

“The registry is a proactive approach to what has previously been reactive to our responses. The voluntary registration front-loads information prior to us arriving at someone’s address,” said Fire Chief David Haboush. “This is about improving outcomes for residents in our community that we are called to assist.”
Carmel City Councilor Laura Campbell says she is excited to roll this out to the community.
“As a mother of an adult daughter with disabilities,” said Campbell, “I hear from many families that have children with disabilities, whether physical or intellectual, who worry what might happen in an emergency situation. This form will be a valuable resource to those first responders who work to keep our community safe every day.”
The form is live and available at this link and there is a printable option if residents refer to fill it out and deliver it to the Carmel Fire Department Headquarters at 2 Civic Square.
