Carmel dropped a 35-23 game to visiting Louisville Trinity Friday night at Carmel Stadium.
The Greyhounds got on the board first after Lukas Krishtanmoorthy kicked a 24-yard field goal with 4:21 left in the first quarter. That would be the only score of the opening period.
Trinity jumped ahead 7-3 less than a minute into the second quarter after Jemaurion Berry made a five-yard touchdown run. Berry would rush for three touchdowns in the game, including the Shamrocks’ next score on a 44-yard sprint. Jeremaih Lynn caught a 42-yard pass late in the second quarter.
Matt Obermeier booted a 42-yard field goal early in the quarter, and Dominic Shockley kept Carmel in it with a 26-yard touchdown catch from Anthony Coellner with nine seconds left in the half. The Greyhounds trailed only 21-13 going into the break.
Krishtanmoorthy added another field goal, a 27-yard kick to get Carmel within 21-16. But two touchdown runs – a 10-yarder from Lynn and a 40-yarder from Berry – kept Trinity ahead 35-16 after three.
Nate Williams caught a 20-yard touchdown throw from Coellner early in the fourth period. Coellner had a monster game, totaling 328 yards on 23-of-37 passing. Shockley had seven of those catches for 129 yards, with Williams getting another seven receptions. Jacob Bellin had six catches and totaled 101 yards.
The Greyhounds are 2-2 and host Brebeuf Jesuit next Friday.
