The Carmel girls basketball team got its biggest scare of the season Tuesday, but ultimately regrouped in the fourth quarter to beat Lawrence North 52-51 in an away Metropolitan Conference game.
The Class 4A No. 4 Wildcats had the 4A No. 1 Greyhounds down 37-26 at halftime. Carmel cut LN’s lead slightly by the end of the third quarter, 44-36.
The ‘Hounds then blasted off in the fourth period. Amy Dilk scored eight straight points for Carmel to tie the game at 44-all. The Greyhounds then took a four-point lead with 3:30 left. Finally, two free throws from Reagan Hune with nine seconds left sealed the game and kept Carmel’s undefeated season (9-0) intact.
Hune had an outstanding game, scoring 18 points. Dilk finished with 13 points, eight rebounds and four steals. Tomi Taiwo and Jasmine McWilliams both pulled five rebounds, with Taiwo making four steals as well.
The ‘Hounds are now 2-0 in MIC play, and will host another conference opponent on Friday. Carmel welcomes Warren Central to the Eric Clark Activity Center that night; tipoff is at 7:30 p.m.
