Carmel Education Foundation awards nine student-led grants

Carmel Education Foundation (CEF) has awarded nine student-led grants. Grants span across schools and include such items and projects as a solar telescope, a community game night with teachers and families, multilingual library books, a districtwide chess tournament, containers to recycle chewed gum, revitalization of a greenhouse at Carmel High School, a science showcase, composting food scraps from student lunches, and a school garden.

Students were challenged to come up with ideas that would either provide a wellness or community building aspect to their classroom, club, or school. All grants will be implemented between January and May of 2023. Each grant has an educator mentor to guide students through the planning, budgeting, and working within Carmel Clay Schools guidelines. Applications were submitted by video, providing the grant committee an opportunity to learn about the applicants and what drove their inspiration for the project.

Funding for these grants was made possible from proceeds from the foundations 2022 Taste of Carmel event.
