The Carmel and Hamilton Southeastern wrestling teams engaged in a rollicking dual meet on Wednesday, with the Greyhounds winning 36-27 at the Royals’ gym.
Both teams won seven matches in the dual. Carmel got the advantage on the scoreboard by winning five of its bouts by pin, while Southeastern had two wins by fall. Getting pins for the Greyhounds were Brendan Mattingly at 120 pounds, Kyle Holman at 125, Garrett Sharp at 145, Jack Eiteljorge at 160 and Logan Hart at 182; Hart’s victory clinched the team win for Carmel.
“Coming out of the MIC, we were trying to see how we would respond, and we thought our kids showed a bunch of effort,” said Greyhounds coach Ed Pendoski.
Carmel’s other two wins were by decision, coming from Jack Williams at 285 and Jake Shafer at 113.
“We were pretty happy about our attitude and our effort, and we really like the pieces in our team right now as we go into the blue room and try to work on some things to polish it up as we head into the state tournament series next week,” said Pendoski.
The Royals got falls from Blake Forbes at 132 pounds and senior Ranvir Sandu in a wild 170-pound match. Southeastern then had decision victories by Crae Kunkleman at 220, Jake Simone at 106, Jake Garcia at 138, Ronan Hiner at 152 and Andrew Irick at 195.
This was the last regular-season competition for both teams, who will now prepare for the Frankfort sectional, which takes place on Jan. 27.
