Carmel Democrats gearing up for big election year

At their last meeting, the Carmel Democratic Club elected four new officers to run the organization for the coming year. The Club is planning to grow membership in Carmel to support the slate of candidates running to represent the city this year.

The Democratic Party in Carmel has a record number of candidates on the ballot for municipal elections in 2023. This year there are Democrats running in the mayoral race, two at-large city council seats, and four district city council seats.

The new Board of the Carmel Democratic Club consists of four members:

  • President: Erin Retif was an elected Democratic District Leader and State Committee Member and served as Chair of her local Democratic Committee while living in the state of New York. She was very involved in Indiana House races for Hamilton County candidates in 2022.
  • Vice President: Beth Sprunger has been involved with activism through Moms Demand Action for 10 years, serving in both local and state leadership positions, and was the volunteer coordinator for Matt McNally’s campaign in 2022 for Indiana House District 39.
  • Secretary: William Howard was a candidate for Carmel City Council in 2019 and Hamilton County Council in 2018. He was elected to be a delegate for the 2020 National Democratic Convention. He is active in the community through volunteerism and board service on several organizations within Carmel, Hamilton County, and statewide.
  • Treasurer: Robert Draper’s involvement in local politics began in 2022. He was involved with the McNally campaign for Indiana House District 39 and is currently serving as treasurer on Sara Draper’s Carmel City Council campaign.

The Carmel Democratic Club will meet at 6:30 p.m. on the last Thursday of each month at the John W. Hensel Government Center, 10701 N. College Ave., Carmel.
