The Carmel girls track and field team competed in the Roncalli Hoosier State Relays Qualifier Tuesday at the University of Indianapolis.
Kara Deady won the pole vault with a personal-best leap of 12 feet, 4 inches. The Greyhounds’ 4×200 relay team of Riley Pennington, Carly Markley, Reagan Hune and Michael Anderson also finished first, in a time of 1:49.46.
“We were able to put our 4×200 relay back into the HSR finals with a solid performance, as well as improving our spot with our 4×400 relay,” said Greyhounds coach Aaron McRill. “These were our two biggest goals for this qualifier. We’ll have to wait until the weekend to find out where we truly stand, but we think we have a great chance to do well at the indoor finals.”
Carmel also had a few competitors in the boys meet: Alex Audia won the pole vault with an effort of 14 feet even, while Jakob Pearson and Brandon Teater placed second and fifth respectively in the 60 hurdles.
