Carmel Clay School Board OKs new administrative hire

The Carmel Clay School Board unanimously approved to hire Dr. Tom Oestreich as the new Assistant Superintendent of Staff and Student Services.

Dr. Oestreich will be responsible for overseeing the recruitment, retention and talent development of all CCS employees. His role will include working with benefits, compensation and the general care and support of CCS staff. In addition, he will serve the student services department which includes school safety, mental health and all areas related to supporting student needs. He will assume the role on Jan. 6, 2020.

Dr. Oestreich brings with him a wealth of experience and leadership developed from his 20 years in public education. He most recently served as Assistant Superintendent of MSD Washington Township (MSDWT), overseeing the daily operations and a variety of departments including safety and security, technology, grants and assessments, special services and student support programs. During his time at MSDWT, he also served as the Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources, leading the recruitment, hiring, evaluation, benefits and service programs for over 1,600 district employees.

He is passionate about providing every student a high quality education and he understands the importance of finding highly motivated and talented teachers to serve our kids! He is truly a servant leader and will continue the great work that Dr. Stephanoff and his team have established here at CCS.”

Dr. Oestreich earned his Bachelor of Science from Butler University in Music Education, his Masters of Education in School Administration and his Doctorate of Education in Educational Leadership with a minor in Curriculum and Instruction from Indiana University. He was named MSD Washington Township Administrator of the Year in 2014.

“I started my career over 20 years ago as a student teacher at Carmel High School and I am absolutely thrilled to return in this new position to serve the Carmel Clay Schools community,” said Dr. Oestreich. “I look forward to meeting and working with all of the Carmel teachers, administrators, staff, parents and students. I have always been impressed with Carmel Clay Schools and cannot wait to immerse myself within the school community in order to continue providing a world class education for our students and families.”

Dr. Oestreich is married to his wife, Allison, and they have a son named Collin. He is a sports enthusiast and enjoys a great game of golf and tennis. He also has a love for music and enjoys traveling with his family.
