The Carmel Clay Public Library will host a Grand Reopening Celebration at its expanded Main Library at 425 E. Main St. on Saturday, Oct. 1. A ribbon cutting at 8:30 a.m. will be followed by a day of activities for all ages, including library tours, technology demonstrations, musical entertainment, and fun for kids.

The reopening marks the completion of a $40 million project to increase the size of the library and renovate existing spaces to better serve Carmel’s growing community. Highlights of the project include a Digital Media Lab relocated from off site, an expanded teens area, flexible meeting rooms, and a parking garage attached to the library by a skybridge.

“We know the Carmel community is passionate about the library and is highly anticipating our doors opening,” said Library Director Bob Swanay. “I can promise it will be worth the wait. Every facet of the library has been significantly enhanced and improved in this project.”

The library enlisted the services of Indianapolis-based international design firm RATIO Design to lead the full building renovation. Throughout the Main Library, sophisticated and thoughtful design choices enhance the user experience and create a delightful destination of discovery.

“It was important to the Library to expand the facility’s spaces and Main Street presence to better serve the growing Carmel community,” said Antone Sgro, Associate Architect at RATIO Design. “We’re thrilled to have the opportunity to help create a versatile hub with a wealth of resources, places to learn and congregate, and an invigorating design that will continue the library’s mission for decades to come.”
