Carmel Clay Parks to celebrate 2020 volunteers virtually

Carmel Clay Parks & Recreation is celebrating the hard work of its 2020 volunteers with a Virtual Volunteer Event at 5:30 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 12. Anyone who volunteered with CCPR in 2020 is invited to attend this virtual two-hour event of celebration, recognition, and fun – come prepared for some park trivia.

2020 was a challenging year. For several months CCPR did not hold volunteer events or programming in order to keep volunteers and CCPR staff safe. Once volunteering resumed, the community was ready to get outdoors and make an impact.

2020 volunteer highlights include:

  • Volunteers donated 1,315 hours of their time to CCPR parks and programs.
  • Volunteers planted and cared for 150 trees.
  • Adopt-A-Park volunteers spent 221 hours removing invasives and planting native plants and trees at their Adopt-a-Park locations.
  • Citizen Science volunteers spent 278 hours monitoring the health of park habitats and collecting native seed as part of a regional project supporting imperiled pollinators of the Midwest.

“We are so fortunate to have volunteers who are passionate, dedicated people who give their time and energy to supporting our programs and stewarding our parks – bringing so much good to the community,” said CCPR Volunteer Coordinator Lana Ramer. “Every year we honor you at our Volunteer Appreciation Event – and we are not allowing the challenges of this year to stop us!”

Volunteers interested in participating in the Virtual Volunteer Event can register at carmelclayparks.com/volunteer. Registration closes at midnight on Thursday, Feb. 11.
