‘Blossoming’ to mix history, interactive play in Midtown . . .

A new piece of public art will be unveiled this Friday by the Carmel Clay Historical Society (CCHS) at its south lawn near the Monon Depot Museum. The unveiling of the Sculpture “Blossoming” will take place at 5:30 p.m. on Friday, March 22 at the Depot, 211 1st St. SW, Carmel. Light soft drinks and snacks will be provided.
The piece, commissioned by former director Emily Ehrgott, was done by Scott Osborne, a senior at Herron School of Art majoring in Integrated Studio Practices with a focus in sculpture and illustration. Osbourne’s inspiration stems from the Monon Greenway’s past, present and future.
“The Historical Society commissioned hometown Carmel artist Scott Osborne to create an interactive sculpture that incorporates a variety of pieces from vintage trains and bicycles to involve all ages of Carmel citizens,” said CCHS Executive Director Deborah Gangstad. “The art piece is perfectly situated where the Monon Train once traveled and where people ride their bicycles today. CCHS is dedicated to celebrate the past as we embrace the future.”

Once the work is unveiled, visitors can search for more than 21 items within this kinetic sculpture for kids of all ages – from railroad signs to bike wheels. The interactive piece will also give you a chance to spin the pedal and watch the wheels rotate to see the flower blossom.
