Carmel’s boys basketball team opened its season Tuesday with a 42-35 win over Zionsville at the Eric Clark Activity Center.
It was a defensive first half, with the Greyhounds leading 8-5 after one quarter and 13-10 at halftime. Carmel’s offense got going in the third period, as the ‘Hounds outscored the Eagles 17-8. Carmel thus led 30-18 going into the fourth quarter, and that helped the Greyhounds hold off Zionsville to win the game.
Sam Orme led Carmel with 16 points, followed by Spencer White with 10 points. Both players hit two 3-pointers. White and Orme both were on top of the rebounding, with eight each.
Carmel will play its next game Saturday at the Tournament of Champions in Moline, Ill. The Greyhounds’ opponent is to be announced.
