Carmel boys lead early, but fall to Center Grove

The Carmel boys wrestling team dropped a tough dual meet at Center Grove Wednesday, 35-29.

The Greyhounds won the first three matches to take a 13-0 lead. Emrby Horal started the meet at 132 pounds with a major decision win, Michael Major picked a decision victory at 138, then Nayl Sbay won the 145-pound bout in a 23-second pin.

The Trojans came back to 13-7 with two wins, then Carmel jumped ahead 23-7. Matthew Green won at 170 with another 23-second fall, then Joseph Del Busto picked up a major decision at 182. But Center Grove took over after that, winning the next six matches. Carmel’s Caleb Mattingly finished the match with a pin at 126.

The ‘Hounds travel to McCutcheon Saturday to compete in the Kyle Osborn Memorial Invitational. Carmel’s girls team will also be in that area Saturday, participating in a tournament at Lafayette Jefferson.
