The Carmel boys basketball team picked up its first win of the season on Friday at a tournament at Mason, Ohio.
The Greyhounds, ranked No. 2 in Class 4A, beat host Mason 61-54. Carmel led 18-12 after the first quarter, with Mason cutting that lead to 31-29 by halftime. Mason got within one point after three quarters, but the ‘Hounds pulled away in the fourth period.
Wil Leary and Peter Suder each scored 15 points. Leary drained three 3-pointers while Suder went 11-of-12 from the free throw line. Conner Gioia added 10 points. Suder and Brian Waddell each collected five rebounds, while Charlie Williams blocked two shots.
Carmel is 1-1 and will play at 4A No. 1 Lawrence Central next Friday in its first Metropolitan Conference game of the season.
