The Carmel Arts Council welcomes artists Nick Mangos and Andy Mosure to Art in the Garden this Saturday, Aug. 28. The World’s Smallest Children’s Art Gallery, located at 40 W. Main St., features an outside garden where both artists will show off their talents.

Artists will interact with guests, and a children’s art table will be set up where all may join in the fun. The Gallery will be open for visitors to view the CAC scholarship winners’ art, as well.

Nick Mangos is a self-taught artist who has been drawing his characters and caricatures his whole life. The cartoon style drawings are whimsical and vintage in style. Some of the drawings are a play on words or a humorous commentary. His cartoon images are old classics like Huckleberry Hound or Popeye. His series of animal characters, which includes an owl, “Inspector Who Dunnit,” appeals to both children and adults. The primary mediums are colored pencil, markers, and oil pastels.

For Art in the Garden, he will demonstrate his drawings on a large board and show children how to draw various characters. A sampling of his work will be on display, along with specially-created drawings for Artomobilia, which include his cartoon cars. You can meet Mangos from 4 to 6 p.m. in The Garden.

Andy Mosure’s artistic journey began in July 2011 with an artist’s gift set of acrylics and a couple of panels. His creativity is sparked by the journey of trying new experiences and learning new skills. His style is heavily influenced by 19th century Impressionism with a fusion of pop art and contemporary methods, loving to combine shapes and various colors to create movement as well as the illusion of a highlight, shadow, or blending. He finds great excitement in exploring different methods and concepts in his art.

Mosure will use acrylic paints and possibly paint markers on canvas while he works on an abstract/impressionist style painting for his time in the garden. Mosure will paint from 6 to 8 p.m.

This is a free event and is open to the public.
