Carmel has long been a source of pride for its residents, and now, Niche has recognized the city as the No. 1 Best Place to Live in Indiana for 2025, awarding an overall A+ grade. This recognition underscores the community’s commitment to fostering a safe, supportive, and enriching environment for all residents.
Carmel also received top honors in key categories, including:
- 1 Best Place to Raise a Family in Indiana
- 1 Place with the Best Public Schools in Indiana
- 2 Best Suburb to Live in America
These distinctions reflect Carmel’s dedication to providing a high quality of life, characterized by strong public safety initiatives, excellent educational opportunities and a thriving community atmosphere.

Niche, a leading online platform for school and neighborhood data, compiles its annual Best Places to Live rankings using rigorous analysis of data from sources like the U.S. Census, combined with valuable input from resident reviews. These rankings consider factors such as public safety, housing, diversity and public schools, offering a comprehensive view of community quality.
In addition to the statewide accolades, Niche.com recognized Carmel as the 7th Best Place to Live in America (of 18,100) and the 27th Best Place to Raise a Family in America (of 18,084).
