Candidates rush to file on first day

Noblesville City Judge Matt Cook was the first candidate on the first day of filing for office in the 2019 municipal election. But, Cook, the incumbent judge, was far from the only one to show up Wednesday at the county elections office. In all there were 33 hopefuls in line for the May 7 primary. All but one are Republicans.

Three candidates for mayor of Noblesville – Julia Kozicki, Chris Jensen and Mike Corbett – made their plans officially known. They will seek to succeed retiring Mayor John Ditslear.

Noblesville’s candidates for other city offices also filing include City Clerk Evelyn Lees, City Council candidates Terry Busby, Pete Schwartz, Rick Taylor, Wil Hampton, Greg O’Connor, Megan Wiles, Brian Ayer, Mark Boice and Darren Peterson.

Similarly, most of Carmel’s incumbent officials filed on the first day including Mayor Jim Brainard and city council members Bruce Kimball, Sue Finkam, Laura Campbell, Ron Carter, Kevin Rider and Jeff Worrell. Sue Wolfgang filed for clerk. A lone Democrat, Miles Nelson, filed for the Carmel council.

Signing up for office in Fishers were City Clerk candidate Jackie Bowen and council candidates Eric Moeller, Brad DeReamer, Mike Colby, David George, Cecilia Coble and Todd Zimmerman.

Westfield Clerk Treasurer Cindy Gossard and councilman Jim Ake filed, as did Sheridan town council hopeful Daniel Bragg.

Filing continues until noon on Feb. 8.
