Boys tennis: Three county teams pick up dual meet wins

Three Hamilton County boys tennis teams picked up solid wins on Wednesday.
Carmel improved to 2-0 by sailing past West Lafayette 5-0. The Greyhounds dropped just 11 games in five matches, including a 6-0, 6-0 victory from the No. 2 doubles team of James McNamara and Ethan Zhang.
Hamilton Heights opened its season with a 5-0 victory over Elwood. The Huskies won four matches in straight sets, and one by default.
“We were pleased to start the year with a win tonight, but even more than that we’re pleased at some of the progress that’s already being made this early in the season,” said Heights coach Cameron Scott. “Tonight our guys started to scratch the surface of what they can be, and we certainly want to dig deeper and deeper as we move forward.  Our doubles teams are going to get better and better every match, and I know that’s just going to fuel the energy on this team.”
Guerin Catholic beat Lawrence North 4-1. The Golden Eagles swept all three singles positions and also won at No. 2 doubles.
Hamilton Southeastern dropped a tough Hoosier Crossroads Conference match to Avon 3-2 on Wednesday. Both of the Royals’ wins were in the doubles matches.
