Hamilton Heights dropped a 3-2 meet to Lewis Cass on Tuesday.
The Huskies’ wins both came from doubles. No. 1 Nic Rice and Josh Russell won their match 6-4, 7-5. At No. 2 doubles, Liam Huss and Jake Martin split sets with the Kings’ team, then were down 3-0 in the third set. After changing their strategy, Huss and Martin won six of the next seven games to take the match.
Heights’ junior varsity team won 4-3. Tanner Maynard won at No. 2 singles, with No. 1 Drew Pennington and Colin Weber, No. 2 Eli VanHaaren and Kal Colter, and No. 3 Erik Malott and Grant Cavanaugh.
“It was great to see each player from both teams give it their all point after point,” said Huskies coach Justin Davis. “There were a lot of momentum swings, a lot of positivity and energy, and a lot of kids simply having fun. Our team especially was able to learn from today. Everyone fought hard. It was exciting to see our 1 doubles team, Nic and Josh, hold on to win that second set after losing momentum early. It was also exciting to see such a big come-from-behind win out of our 2 doubles team, Liam and Jake. All the way around we are showing some great improvements on both the mental and physical sides of the game.
