Boys tennis: Huskies beat Frankton in thrilling dual meet

The Hamilton Heights boys tennis team won a thrilling 3-2 dual meet over Frankton on Tuesday.
The Huskies needed to come back to get all three of their wins. No. 3 singles Ben Wolfgang trailed in the first set, but then cruised to a 6-3, 6-0 victory by winning 11 straight games. No. 2 doubles Liam Huss and Jake Martin were down 4-1 in the first set, then took five straight games to win the set 6-4. Huss and Martin rode the momentum in the second set, taking that one 6-3.
At No. 1 doubles, Nic Rice and Josh Russell won the first set 6-1, lost the second set 6-4, then were down 5-2 in the third set before winning five straight games to clinch the match, 7-5 in the third.
“Tonight was all-around very competitive and an entertaining night of tennis,” said Heights coach Justin Davis. “The teams were matched up well and if the rain stays away, we will see Frankton again on Saturday in our Husky Invitational. Should be another fun day of tennis! A lot of credit to Ben, Nic and Josh, and Liam and Jake. They all were down during their match and fought to come back and win the set.”
The Heights junior varsity team won 4-1. Ethan Hall and Eli VanHaaren won singles matches, and the doubles teams of Drew Pennington/Colin Weber and Kal Colter/Grant Cavanaugh were also victorious.

In a Tuesday all-county boys meet, top-ranked Carmel beat No. 18 Guerin Catholic 3-0.
The Greyhounds won No. 1 singles and both doubles matches before the match ended early due to rain.
