The IHSAA boys tennis post-season began Wednesday with sectional semi-finals at Carmel and Hamilton Southeastern.
The top-ranked and defending state champion Greyhounds easily advanced to the championship match by beating University 5-0. Carmel won four of the five matches 6-0, 6-0 and only dropped one game at No. 1 doubles, taking that match 6-1, 6-0.
The ‘Hounds will play No. 22-ranked Westfield at 4:15 p.m. this afternoon in the championship. The Shamrocks defeated Guerin Catholic 5-0. Four of the five matches were decided in straight sets, with No. 3 singles Connor Housefield winning a tough match with the Golden Eagles’ Michael Wade. After splitting sets, Housefield won a 10-8 super tiebreak.
Over at HSE, ninth-ranked Fishers advanced to the championship by beating Hamilton Heights 5-0. The Tigers won all three singles matches 6-0, 6-0 and both doubles matches 6-1, 6-0.
Fishers will meet the No. 15-ranked Royals in today’s championship, which begins at 4:30 p.m. Southeastern beat Noblesville 5-0, winning Nos. 1 and 2 singles and No. 2 doubles in straight sets. Elias Yarling emerged from a tight match with the Millers’ Michael Krukover in three sets, while the No. 1 doubles team of Matt Meyer and Matthew Parker also won in three sets, over Noblesville’s Ben Smith and Evan Voigt.
