Guerin Catholic, the state’s No. 6 ranked team, clinched the Circle City Conference championship by beating Heritage Christian 5-0 on Thursday.
No. 1 singles Michael Wade needed three sets to get his win, while No. 3 singles Michael Aikman also prevailed in a three-set match that lasted almost three hours.
“Heritage Christian always comes out ready to play,” said Golden Eagles coach Joe Lustig. “Mounts and Booker had a game plan and stuck to it for the duration of the match. I was very happy for Michael Aikman tonight. Mounts was getting to everything and forced Michael to avoid any frustrating unforced errors. Michael played a very smart third set. Wade found a way to win tonight. Cole Metzger used his strokes well tonight by moving his opponent and keeping him out of his rhythm by changing his pace throughout the match. Our doubles won by taking over the net.”
Match results are as follows:
No. 1 singles: Michael Wade def. Booker 6-4, 4-6, 6-4
No. 2 singles: Cole Metzger def. Woolworth 6-2, 6-3
No. 3 singles: Michael Aikman def. Mounts 6-4, 0-6, 6-3
No. 1 doubles: Jake Bratton and Wyatt Metzger def. Kay and Keller 6-1, 6-0
No. 2 doubles: A.J. Hacker and Shane Shuler def. Hastings and Schaefer 6-1, 6-1
