The Fishers boys swim team won the sectional championship last Saturday at Hamilton Southeastern.
The Tigers scored 535.5 points and won six events at their pool. In addition, Fishers advanced 12 swims to Friday’s state preliminaries, all under the state cut time.
Jonathan Hines was a double winner, pacing both the 200 freestyle (1:39.11) and the 500 free (4:25.36), where he led a Fishers 1-2-3 finish. Alex Koo also picked up two victories, placing first in the 50 free (21.27 seconds) and the 100 free (46.19).
Luis Sanchez won the backstroke (50.93), immediately after the Tigers triumphed in the 200 free relay (1:26.42). Sanchez also qualified for state in the individual medley, under the state cut time. Other Fishers state qualifiers were Hudson Lee in the butterfly, Camden Askren and Anthony Adams Jr. in the 500 free, and the Tigers’ medley and 400 free relays.
Fishers finished 2-3-4 in the diving event, which featured incredibly high scores. Oak Hill’s Grant Cates won diving with a total of 641.70 points. After that it was all Tigers: Mason Lawson was second (557.90), Jacob Schade placed third (554.85) and Kirby Danglade was fourth (483.05). All four divers qualify for Tuesday’s Fishers regional.
The host Royals won five events, all under the cut time, and had one additional swim under the cut to total six state qualifiers.
Jihoon Jung placed first in the IM (1:49.31) and the butterfly (49.28), while Collin Huston won the breaststroke (56.13). Southeastern also triumphed in the medley relay (1:32.47) and the 400 free relay (3:08.80). The Royals’ 200 free relay qualified for state under the cut time.
Hamilton Heights was fifth as a team. The Huskies’ 200 and 400 free relay teams both placed fourth, while Aiden Clarke finished fifth in the 500 free.
