Boys state swimming: Carmel sends 24 swims to finals, Fishers and HSE advance several

The IHSAA boys state swimming preliminaries took place Friday at the IU Natatorium, and Hamilton County’s teams all had solid performances.
Carmel is in the driver’s seat as it attempts to win a seventh consecutive state championship, qualifying 24 swims for today’s state finals. Nineteen of the Greyhounds’ swims made it to the championship heat, with the other five headed to the consolation heat.
Carmel had three swims qualify for the championship heat in three events. Augustus Rothrock, Ryan Malicki and Carter Lancaster made it in the individual medley, Rothrock, Christopher Holmes and Kellen Reese qualified in the butterfly, and Kayden Lancaster, Gregg Enoch and Aaron Shackell advanced in the 500 free.
Other championship-heat qualifiers for the Greyhounds were Griffin Hadley and Kayden Lancaster in the 200 free, Hadley in the 100 free, Carter Lancaster and Sean Sullivan in the backstroke, and Ryan Malicki and Brandon Malicki in the breaststroke; with Ryan Malicki the top seed.
Carmel also earned the first seed in the medley relay, with Carter Lancaster, Ryan Malicki, Holmes and William Kok swimming that event. The Greyhounds’ 200 free relay team of Ryan Malicki, Kok, Andrew Robertson and Kayden Lancaster also took the top seed in that event. The 400 free relay squad of Ethan Johns, Rothrock, Hadley and Enoch is the second seed.
Consolation heat qualifiers for Carmel are Schakell in the 200 free, Holmes and Robertson in the 50 free, Sullivan in the 100 free and Connor Lathrop in the backstroke.
Fishers advanced nine swims to the finals, with seven making the championship heat and two more reaching the consols. The Tigers had two swimmers reach the championship heat of the 500 free, Jackson Carlile and Kyle Ponsler. Jackson Carlile also qualified for the championship heat of the 200 free, with Ponsler making it in the IM.
All three of the Tigers relays made it to the championship heat as well, starting with the medley relay team of Logan Ayres, Reed Beaumont, Daniel Bennett and Connor Carlile. Also advancing are the 200 free relay team of Jackson Carlile, Beaumont, Connor Carlile and Ponsler, and the 400 free relay squad of Jackson Carlile, Tyler Schwertfeger, Connor Carlile and Ponsler.
Connor Carlile made the consolation heat of the IM, with Ayres doing the same in the backstroke.
Hamilton Southeastern advanced seven swims to the finals, with five reaching the championship heat and two more making the consolation heat. Keegan Streett qualified for the championship heat in both the 200 and 100 freestyles.
The Royals also sent all three of their relays to the championship heat. Ryan Harrison, Justin Voelker, Thomas Reising and Zack Bostock qualified in the medley relay; Streett, Bostock, Reising and Logan Hess advanced in the 200 free relay, and Bostock, Streett, Charles Rogers and Reising qualified in the 400 free relay.
Reising reached the consolation heat of the butterfly, as did Voelker in the breaststroke.
Noblesville had three swims advance to the consolation heat. Luke Whitlock qualified in the 500 free, Aidan Biddle advanced in the breaststroke, and both swimmers joined Jeremiah Ledwith and Cameron Cavan on the qualifying medley relay team.
Westfield’s Noah Brauer advanced to the consolation heat in the IM.
The state finals begin with the diving competition at 9 a.m. The swimming finals start at 3:30 p.m.

Positions 1-8 qualify for championship heat, positions 9-16 qualify for consolation heat, positions 17 and 18 are alternates.
