Boys soccer: Sheridan wins home opener, now 2-0 in HHC

It was worth the wait for the Sheridan boys soccer team to play its first home game of the season on Thursday.
The Blackhawks won their home opener 1-0 over Tri-Central in an important Hoosier Heartland Conference game. Sophomore Will Zachery scored Sheridan’s goal at the 28:12 mark of the first half. After that, it was a defensive battle and the ‘Hawks held on for the win.
Sheridan is now 2-0 in HHC play. The ‘Hawks host Liberty Christian at 12:30 p.m. Saturday.

Hamilton Southeastern, the No. 1 ranked team in Class 3A, blasted Kokomo 7-0 on Thursday.
Matt Kuster scored less than a minute into the game, then Chayton Davidson added two more goals in the first half.
The Royals are now 8-0 for the season, and travel to Penn on Saturday to take on Crwon Point and the host Kingsmen.

Carmel played to a tie with Lawrence Central 2-2 in a Thursday Metropolitan Conference game.
Jack Muller scored both goals for the 3A No. 18 Greyhounds, who are 4-4-1 for the season. Ben Godden and Babacar Diatta both made one assist.
“I couldn’t be more proud of how the team stuck to the task and were able to overcome several obstacles,” said Carmel coach Shane Schmidt. “Game by game, our spacing and positioning is improving. We will continue to work hard and prepare for our next game.”

Hamilton Heights lost in the first round of the Hoosier Conference tournament on Thursday, falling to Western 2-1.
The Panthers scored both of their goals in the first half, outshooting the Huskies 5-3 during that time. Heights played better in the second half, outshooting Western 9-3, but could only find the back of the net once. Josh Thorpe converted a penalty kick.
Caleb Grabarz recorded four saves on the game.
“Player of the game goes to Jackson Stuart who shut down several Western attacks and also contributed to many great attacking runs offensively,” said Huskies coach Derrick Dean.
Heights will continue conference play Saturday morning.

University defeated Anderson Prep 5-0 on Thursday.
