Boys soccer: Shamrocks come back, win wild HCC game

Westfield came back to beat Brownsburg in a wild 5-4 Hoosier Crossroads Conference victory on Thursday.
The Bulldogs blitzed the Shamrocks for three goals in the first 10 minutes. Westfield got on the board after that, with senior captain Max Von Arx putting a free kick into the net. Moments later, the Shamrocks cut Brownsburg’s lead to 3-2; junior Jordan Donsky placed a free kick near the goal and junior Ben Wallace’s diving effort got it in to score.
The Bulldogs scored again to go up 4-2, but Westfield narrowed the lead to 4-3 before halftime after junior David Green found the back of the net. The Shamrocks cruised through the second half; senior Francis Agbo sent a header to Green, who put a low shot into the net for his second goal of the game. Finally, senior captain Miguel Ayala got the ball at the top of the box, then recovered his own shots and played it to Green, who put the ball in for his third goal of the game, and the winning score.
The Shamrocks are 2-3-1 in HCC play and 7-5-1 overall. They host Columbus North on Thursday.

Noblesville also picked up an HCC victory on Tuesday, beating Franklin Central 3-1 in the Millers’ Senior Night game.
Harrison Christman scored two goals for Class 3A No. 11 Noblesville. The first goal was in the first half and was assisted by Gabe Imes. In the second half, Spencer Holland scored the Millers’ second goal, then assisted Christman’s second goal of the night.
Noblesville is 3-2 in the conference and 8-2-2 overall. The Millers play at Lawrence Central on Thursday.

Carmel, back in the 3A rankings at No. 19, beat 3A No. 17 Pike 2-0 in a Tuesday Metropolitan Conference game.
Senior Sam Thiel scored both goals, with senior Griffin Lee making one assist. Senior Gabe Moorman recorded the shutout.
“I am very proud of the work the guys put in tonight,” said Greyhounds coach Shane Schmidt. “I thought our wing play was the difference maker.”
Carmel is 3-2-1 in MIC play and 7-3-2 overall. The ‘Hounds host Cathedral on Thursday.

Fishers picked up a 2-1 HCC victory over Avon on Tuesday.
Zach Castro and Angel Roque Granados both scored goals for the 3A No. 9 Tigers, who finished conference play 6-1. Fishers has clinched second place in the HCC; Zionsville is 6-0 with one more conference game to play, next Tuesday at Brownsburg.
The Tigers are 9-3 overall and host New Palestine on Thursday.

University, ranked No. 2 in 1A, beat 1A No. 12 Greenwood Christian 1-0 on Tuesday.
The Trailblazers are 8-1-4 and play at Western Boone on Thursday.

Hamilton Southeastern, rated No. 10 in 3A fell to 3A No. 1 Zionsville 3-0 in a Tuesday HCC game.
The Royals are 2-3-1 in the conference and 8-3-2 overall. Southeastern’s next game is Saturday when it hosts Homestead.

Sheridan dropped a 3-0 game at Caroll on Tuesday.
The Blackhawks are 3-5-2 and play at Eastern on Thursday.
