Boys soccer: Millers, ‘Hounds post Senior Night wins

The Noblesville boys soccer team celebrated its Senior Night on Thursday with a 4-0 victory over Class 2A No. 11 Brebeuf Jesuit at Hallmark Orthodontics Soccer Complex.
The 3A No. 2 Millers got on the board nine minutes into the game when senior Garrett Poynter scored off an assist from senior Drew Barnes. Right before halftime, Palmer Ault put Noblesville ahead 2-0, with Brayden Doll making the assist.
The Millers continued to dominate in the second half. Senior Sam VanMeter scored with 20 minutes left to go, with Barnes making the assist. Barnes then scored Noblesville’s fourth goal, off an assist by Spencer Holland. The Millers’ defensive line of Drew Cochran, Brady Horn, Andy Stansfield, and seniors Colin Todd and Luke Watness, along with senior goalkeeper Nick Johnson, held the Braves to a shutout.
Other seniors on the team are Nick Johnson, Kyle Marshall and Jake Sexton.
Noblesville is now 4-0 for the season and will host Fishers Tuesday in a Hoosier Crossroads Conference game.

Carmel, ranked No. 6 in 3A, opened up Metropolitan Conference play Thursday with a 3-0 Senior Night win over 3A No. 9 Center Grove at Brian Murray Stadium.
Senior Medard Mikobi scored two goals for the Greyhounds, with junior Will Morgan getting the other goal. Senior Jackson Carl made two assists and senior Dalton Grubbs had one. Senior Henry Geisel earned his second shutout in a row.
Carmel coach Shane Schmidt said he was “very proud” of how his team played on Senior Night.
“Our team shape defensively tonight made a huge difference in helping us transition into our attack,” said Schmidt.
The ‘Hounds are 2-1-1 will play Tuesday at Brebeuf Jesuit.

Hamilton Heights picked up a Thursday win over New Castle, by the score of 1-0.
Donovan Trew scored the Huskies’ goal. Heights is 1-1 for the season and plays at Lebanon on Saturday morning.

Hamilton Southeastern, ranked No. 8 in 3A, won a 4-0 road game at Shelbyville on Thursday.
Yael Lopez scored the Royals’ first goal with a shot under the Golden Bears’ goalkeeper. Southeastern led 1-0 at halftime, but added three more goals in the second half.
Isa Sayeed scored on a header, assisted by Harsahil Gandham. Ryan Mikels and Matt Weaver both had one goal each, with Parker Gopsill making one assist.
The Royals are 5-0-1 and host Franklin Central at noon Saturday.

Fishers, No. 11 in 3A, fell to 3A No. 4 Zionsville 1-0 in a Thursday Hoosier Crossroads Conference game.
The Eagles scored their goal in the 22nd minute. The Tigers had several chances throughout the game, but Zionsville’s defense denied them all. Nick Rambo and Tyler Marsh had solid games as the Fishers goalkeepers.
“We really had much of the possession,” said Fishers coach Phil Schmidt, who said his team played “really well” during the game.
“Just couldn’t get on the end of one,” said Schmidt.
The Tigers are 1-2-1 and play at McCutcheon on Saturday evening.

Sheridan dropped its opening game to Benton Central 6-0 on Thursday.
The Blackhawks host Blackford on Saturday morning.
