Boys soccer: HSE beats Carmel, Millers win in Ohio

In a Saturday all-county boys soccer game, Class 3A No. 3 Hamilton Southeastern beat 3A No. 7 Carmel 1-0 at the Royals’ field.
Southeastern scored its goal in the second half, with Blake Braden finding the back of the net. Noah Link provided the assist.
The Royals are 2-0-1 and host Brownsburg on Tuesday to begin Hoosier Crossroads Conference play. Carmel is 1-2 and welcomes Ben Davis on Tuesday in its first Metropolitan Conference game.

Noblesville, the No. 1 team in 3A, took care of business against one of Ohio’s top-ranked teams on Saturday.
The Millers beat Olentangy Liberty 5-0 in an afternoon game. Olentangy Liberty is located in Powell, Ohio, a suburb of Columbus.
Noblesville got on the board in the fifth minute when Palmer Ault scored off an assist by Spencer Holland. Brayden Doll sent the ball to Holland to set the play in motion. Less than a minute later, Palmer scored again, with Jake Johns and Gabe Ingle combining for the assist.
That gave the Millers a 2-0 lead, which they would hold at halftime. In the second half, Holland got the third goal on a combination play by Ault and Kyle Goad. Holland then scored the fourth goal, with Johns making the assist. Doll completed the scoring with Noblesville’s fifth goal, off an assist by Goad.
Goalkeeper Cole Thompson and defender Luke Odle were among the top players for the Millers on the defensive end.
“It was a good team win,” said Ault. “We played a new team with people we’re not used to. We looked a bit lethargic during warm-ups, but we came out strong. And we got to see some guys play a great supporting role and give us some minutes; they really helped us battle the heat.”
Noblesville is 3-0 and returns to Hallmark Orthodontics Soccer Complex on Tuesday to play Avon in an HCC game.

Fishers, the No. 4 team in 3A, cruised past Harrison 7-0 in a Saturday away game.
Keiji Nakamae scored three goals for the Tigers. Other goal scorers were Sam Hevesy, Andres Carabano, Ethan Slabaugh and Noah Reinhart.
Fishers is 2-0 and plays at Zionsville on Tuesday.

University, ranked No. 17 in 1A, sailed past 1A No. 8 Indianapolis Lutheran 7-0 on Saturday.
Remy Lance scored four goals for the Trailblazers, with Gabe Mervis, Julien Bentaieb and Chris Millen each scoring one.
University is 2-0-1 and hosts Bethesda Christian on Monday.

Westfield, the No. 20 team in 3A, tied with Pike 1-1 on Saturday.
Jacob Schuman scored a second-half goal in order to get the Shamrocks the draw.
Westfield is 0-1-1 and hosts Franklin Central Tuesday in an HCC game.

Hamilton Heights fell to Muncie Burris 3-2 on Saturday.
The Huskies are 0-2 and play Tuesday at Shelbyville.
