Fifth-ranked Royals score four in each half to take down Anderson
Hamilton Southeastern wasted very little time in making their way past the Anderson Indians on Monday night in the first round of boys soccer sectional action at Fishers.
They were able to score four goals in each half to completely overwhelm Anderson, 8-0.
The Royals had three players that netted a pair of goals each. Logan Puls (two assists), Evan Shideler and Logan Wright (assist) were those three, while Jonathan Leeper and Drew MacDonald also found the back of the net to account for their eight scores.
The Indians end their season with a 6-9 record and HSE (12-2-3) advances to the first semifinal on Wednesday and will play Fishers for the second time this season.
No. 3 Tigers make quick work of Bearcats to set up rematch with HSE
The Fishers Tigers had their game in high gear throughout the first half on Monday night on their home field in their first-round matchup with Muncie Central.
Quick scoring in the first half is all that it took for Fishers to get their point across to the Bearcats in a 6-0 shutout of Muncie Central.
Kyle Clayton scored three goals for a hat trick in the first 40 minute, along with assisting on another. Santi Morales scored a pair and Noah Reinhart (two assists) added a goal for the six Tiger tallies. Fishers also got assists from Ethan Slabaugh, Caleb Hernandez and Grant Scott
Muncie Central falls to 9-7 to close out their season. Fishers (11-2-4) moves on to a rematch with Hamilton Southeastern Wednesday at Fishers in a Mudsock part II battle. The Tigers won the first Mudsock game on September 6, also at home, 1-0.
The Tigers and Royals will duke it out in the first semifinal at 5:30 p.m., followed by Noblesville (10-3-3) face Pendleton Heights (10-6) in the second semifinal at around 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Millers are the defending Sectional 8 champion and won the 2021 Class 3A state title.
3A Sectional 10 at Carmel
One early score made a big difference for Carmel when it hosted Zionsville Tuesday in the first round of Sectional 10, which the Greyhounds are hosting at Murray Stadium.
It was a No. 1 vs. No. 2 showdown, and top-ranked Carmel got a 2-0 victory over the second-ranked Eagles. Will Latham scored the first goal for the ‘Hounds in the 10th minute, off a Braeden Thomson assist, and that 1-0 lead would hold through halftime.
“I’m sure all coaches talk about the first 10 minutes of each half, and five minutes after a goal is scored is when there’s the most emotion invested in the game, and being able to try to control those moments in the game,” said Carmel coach Shane Schmidt. “If we can control those moments, it really helps us try to establish control in a game. I don’t think we really had control in that game. I don’t think you can when you play a top team like Zionsville.”
Nevertheless, the Greyhounds were able to stand firm against the Eagles’ tough attack in the second half. Carmel’s offense helped out, of course: Colin Fettig put in the second goal during the 52nd minute, with Latham providing the assist. Meanwhile, goalkeeper Adam Keleher making several big saves in the second half to keep Zionsville from a potential comeback.
“No matter how you look at it, you’re going to have to play good teams at some point in time if you keep advancing in the state tournament,” said Schmidt.
Carmel is 12-2-3 and will play No. 20 North Central at 7:30 p.m. tonight in the second game of the sectional semi-finals. The Panthers beat Westfield 1-0 in Tuesday’s first game; the Shamrocks finished their season 6-6-4.

1A Sectional 39 at Anderson Prep Academy
‘Hawks get easy victory
Sheridan won a first-round game 9-0 over Taylor Monday as play began at Sectional 39, hosted by Taylor.
Carsen Aleman scored four goals for the Blackhawks, with freshman Brady Hammock putting in two. Patrick Orlando, Evan Krakora and Trai Fitzgerald each scored one. Donovan Aleman dished out two assists, with Angel Cuautle, Evan Krupp, Krakora and Carsen Aleman each handing out one assist.
Sheridan plays Muncie Burris at 5:30 p.m. this afternoon in the first semi-final game.
1A Sectional 40 at Park Tudor
‘Blazers cruise into semi-finals
No. 3-ranked University took care of business in its first-round game with Tindley Monday at Park Tudor, winning 16-0.
Eleven different players scored goals for the Trailblazers. Chris Millen scored four goals, followed by Padric Hatton with three. Nine more players each scored one goal.
University is now 13-2-2 and will take on International in tonight’s semi-finals. The ‘Blazers will play in the second game, around 7 p.m., following the first semi-final between No. 2 Park Tudor and Scecina.
