Boys golf: Royals get best of Tigers & Millers, three teams play sectional Monday

The Hamilton Southeastern boys golf team ran away with a three-team meet against Fishers and Noblesville Thursday at Harbour Trees.

The Royals totaled a 281, going three under par as a team. The Tigers were second with a 322, while the host Millers carded a 324. Two Southeastern golfers broke 70, starting with medalist Mattingly Upchurch, who drained eight birdies on his way to a five-under par 66.

Cole Starnes made three birdies during his round of 69, two-under par. Nate Benson scored a 72 and drained an eagle on the 17th hole, along with three birdies. Lane Zedrick’s 74 included five birdies. Other Royals scores were Jack Finwall 77 (three birdies), Kai Warner 80 (four birdies) and Tyler Marcinko 99 (one birdie).

Fishers was led by Tommy Klinker, who carded a 76 (one birdie), while Carson Peters added a 79 with three birdies. Sam Keithley drained a pair of birdies on his way to an 82, and Jonathan Ash had one birdie while scoring an 85. Other Tigers scores were Ethan Poto 87, Ryan Stewart 91 (one birdie) and Henry Keithley 92.

Cooper Claussen was Noblesville’s low man with a 78, including two birdies. Alex Peck also made two birdies while carding an 80. Will Barnes added an 82 (one birdie) and Drew Decker scored 84. Other Millers scores were Rory Bushong 85 (two birdies), Brady Mangin 86 and Drew Werkley 89.

All three teams will return to Harbour Trees on Monday for the sectional.
