Boys basketball sectionals continue tonight

The boys basketball sectionals continue tonight with semi-final match-ups.
At Class 4A Sectional 8 at Noblesville, the Millers will take on Carmel in the first game, which tips off at 6 p.m. The Greyhounds, ranked No. 3 in the Associated Press Class 4A poll and No. 4 in the IBCA one-class poll) hosted Noblesville in the regular season game on Dec. 10, which they won 64-49. Carmel is 17-5 for the season, while the Millers beat Zionsville 67-53 in Tuesday’s first round to improve to 13-10. It was the first sectional-game win for Noblesville since 2017.
In the second semi-final, Westfield will play Hamilton Southeastern. That contest will tip off immediately following the first game, around 7:45 p.m. The Royals are 9-13 and beat the Shamrocks 66-58 in a Jan. 14 regular-season contest.
Westfield, ranked No. 11 in the IBCA poll, is coming off a big win, as the ‘Rocks beat No. 2 Fishers 62-44 in Tuesday’s first round. Westfield is 19-6 and has advanced to the sectional championship game twice in the past two years.
RECEIVING BYES
The other Hamilton County schools all received byes at their respective sectionals, so they will open play tonight in the semi-finals.
Hamilton Heights, playing in Class 3A Sectional 24 at New Castle, will take on Jay County in the first semi-final at 6 p.m. The Patriots are 20-4 and upset the host and No. 6-ranked Trojans 44-33 in Tuesday’s first round. The Huskies are 10-11 for the season.
In the other semi-final, Muncie Burris will play Yorktown. The Tigers are 8-14 and beat Delta 45-36 in the first round, while the Owls are 9-12.
Guerin Catholic is headed west to Lebanon for Class 3A Sectional 27. The Golden Eagles play the second semi-final, facing off against Circle City Conference rival Bishop Chatard.
The Trojans are 16-7, while Guerin Catholic is 13-10. The two teams met back on Jan. 7, with Chatard winning 53-41. The Trojans beat Christel House Manual 64-62 in the first round on Tuesday.
In the first semi-final, the host Tigers play Brebeuf Jesuit in a battle of 16-win teams. The Braves (16-7) opened play by defeating Shortridge 83-48 on Tuesday. Lebanon is 16-8.
PLAYING THE HOST
Sheridan travels to Tipton tonight for Class 2A Sectional 40 action. The Blackhawks will be playing the host Blue Devils in the second semi-final.
Sheridan enters the game with a 4-18 record, while Tipton is 15-6. The Blue Devils beat Taylor 61-48 in the first round on Tuesday. The first semi-final features Eastbrook (10-12) taking on Madison-Grant (13-10). The Argylls reached the semi-finals with a 59-43 win over Blackford on Tuesday.
University will head south to Park Tudor to play in Class 2A Sectional 42. The Trailblazers also get the second game of the night, playing Covenant Christian.
University is 13-9, while the Warriors are 12-12, advancing to the semis with a 36-31 victory over Scecina. The ‘Blazers won the regular-season game against Covenant on Jan. 22, by the score of 53-52.
In the first semi-final, Irvington Prep (4-13) will play Heritage Christian (11-11), a 69-54 Tuesday winner over host Park Tudor.
Winners of tonight’s sectional semi-final games will advance to the Saturday championship contests at their respective sites.
