Boys basketball roundup: Greyhounds win overtime MIC game

Carmel made a fourth-quarter comeback at Center Grove Friday night, sending its game with the Trojans into overtime, where the Greyhounds won 51-44 to keep their unbeaten season going.
Class 4A No. 2 Carmel led 13-12 after the first quarter and 21-18 at halftime. Center Grove edged 30-28 ahead by the end of the third period and built its lead in the fourth, but a 10-2 run by the ‘Hounds got them back in the game, which finished regulation 39-39. In the extra period, Wil Leary hit a 3-pointer to get the Greyhounds ahead, and a Charlie Williams dunk got them up by four. Carmel held on from there.
Peter Suder had an outstanding game, earning a double-double of 16 points and 13 rebounds. Brian Waddell added nine points and five rebounds.
The Greyhounds are 9-0 and host another unbeaten team tonight: Class 4A No. 5 Westfield will play Carmel at the Eric Clark Activity Center.

Millers beat New Castle

Noblesville picked up a game at New Castle on Friday, and won a hard-fought game with the Trojans by the score of 54-52.
The Millers led 15-11 after the first quarter and 28-22 at halftime. New Castle cut slightly into Noblesville’s lead during the second half, but the Millers still were ahead 40-36 after three periods and were able to hold off the Trojans in the fourth.
EJ Smith made four 3-pointers on his way to 16 points. Luke Almodovar added 13 points. Noah Harris collected nine rebounds, while Aaron Fine and Preston Roberts both pulled five rebounds. Roberts also handed out four assists.
Noblesville’s game with Muncie Central that was scheduled for tonight has been canceled. The Millers are back at The Mill on Tuesday to host a make-up game with Fishers.

Huskies cruise in division opener

Hamilton Heights won its Hoosier Conference East Division opener on Friday, cruising past Northwestern 69-47 at the Tigers’ gym.
The Huskies dominated the first quarter, leading 22-6, then extended that lead to 39-20 by halftime. Heights continued to cruise in the third period, adding another 20 points.
Lucas Letsinger had an incredible game, scoring 31 points and draining eight 3-pointers. Gus Etchison added 17 points, dished out six assists and collected five rebounds. Luke Carroll led the rebounds with seven and Noah Linville handed out four assists.
The Huskies are 5-1 for the season. Heights’ game with Bishop Luers that was scheduled for tonight was canceled. The Huskies’ next game is next Friday at Lapel.
