Signature fundraiser supports blind, visually-impaired Hoosiers
Bosma Visionary Opportunities Foundation’s 11th annual Dining in the Dark raised more than $100,000 to benefit programs that help Hoosiers navigate blindness. One of Indianapolis’ largest philanthropic events, this year’s gala took place Aug. 7 at the JW Marriott in Downtown Indianapolis. The event raised much-needed funds for Bosma and its mission.
During the event, guests donned sleep masks as the lights were dimmed for dinner. Ambassadors at each table offered guidance on how to eat a meal without sight. This year’s theme was Independence Island, featuring food, drinks, dancing and even a few games. Attendees heard inspiring stories and learned more about Bosma’s many programs to help Hoosiers who are blind or visually impaired.
“Dining in the Dark is a critically important event for Bosma because it contributes to our ability to serve hundreds of Hoosiers every year,” said CEO Jeffrey Mittman. “The event has become an annual tradition for many in the community, and we were excited to bring it back in-person at the JW Marriott.”
Rooted in more than 100 years of history, Bosma is one of Indiana’s largest nonprofit organizations providing training and employment programs for people who are blind or visually impaired. Bosma Visionary Opportunities Foundation was founded to support Bosma’s mission to transform the lives of people who are blind or visually impaired by giving them the life skills they need to remain independent and the job skills they need to stay self-sufficient.
Through corporate partnerships, special events and ongoing fundraising, all foundation revenues go to support Bosma and the comprehensive vision rehabilitation programs offered through its Center for Visionary Solutions.
