Once again, the Bob Spacey Invitational proved itself to be a tournament that features the best of the best in Indiana boys golf.
Noblesville hosted the tournament on Saturday at Fox Prairie Golf Course. Carmel won the team title with a score of 286, with Westfield in second place with 294.
The Shamrocks had the individual medalist: Andrew Lewis lit up Fox Prairie with an eight-under par score of 63, which ties his personal best.
“I shot 63 about a year and a half ago in October at Purdue’s home course,” said Lewis. “I hit the ball really solid. I think I hit 17 greens and I putted really well, my length putting especially. All parts of my game were really firing today.”
Carmel’s Nick Dentino was the second individual with a 67, four under par.
“I think I’ve been improving each and every round,” said Dentino. “I just feel like if I can just focus on one shot at a time, I’ll get the best outcome that I can.”
The Greyhounds were remarkably consistent as a team. Clay Stirsman carded a 72, Cole Harris shot 73 and Curtis Robertson and JD Dulin both had 74s.
“I think we played great,” said Carmel assistant coach Adam Ross. “The wind was switching back and forth all today. I think we developed a really good plan Thursday for our practice round and that’s been our focus this year is to get a good plan and go out and execute it on the day of the tournament.”
As for Westfield, Ethan Lutz scored 74, Sam Elliott carded 78 and Drake Biggs had a 79.
“The competitive nature of the state of Indiana this year for golf is incredible,” said Shamrocks coach Josh Bryant. “For us and for anybody it’s about finishing an 18-hole round of golf. We talk about that all the time, and Andrew’s a good example of finishing it today.”
Guerin Catholic tied with Zionsville for third place, with Ben Burgan shooting a 72. John Cherry and Daivia Akala both had 75s for fifth-place Hamilton Southeastern.
Noblesville played four individuals, with Jacob Deakyne shooting a 72.
