‘Blazers fall to Danville

The University girls suffered their first loss of the season Wednesday, losing 54-47 at Danville.
The Class 2A No. 5 Trailblazers started out hot in the first quarter, sharing the ball and scoring at the rim. Four players scored in the opening period and University led 16-7 at the first-quarter buzzer. Baskets by Patty Chikamba and Kelsey DuBois put University up 20-7 two minutes into the second quarter.
Danville turned the tide of the game scoring 22 points in the last six minutes of the second period. Danville scored the next seven points before a Payton Seay three-pointer restored the University lead to 23-14, but the Blazers scored only two points the rest of the half. Danville tied the contest at 25 and took a 29-25 lead in to the halftime locker room. Danville hit four three-pointers in the second quarter to shift the momentum
Chikamba scored the first four points of the second half to tie the game at 29, but Danville led the rest of the game. University was within three points on two occasions in the fourth quarter but could not get back to even.
University was led by Chikamba with 16 points and nine rebounds and Seay with 15 points and eight rebounds. DuBois pulled down seven rebounds.
Isabelle Wooten led Danville with a game-high 21 points.
Both teams are now 2-1 on the season. University is next in action on Tuesday when it hosts Cathedral at The U Center.
