‘Blazers fall to Cathedral, 63-33

The University girls lost their second consecutive game Tuesday, falling 63-33 to Indianapolis Cathedral.
The first quarter was a back and forth contest with University taking an 11-7 lead with 3:58 to go in the period on a pair of Payton Seay free throws. Those were the last Trailblazer points in the first stanza with Cathedral scoring a pair of baskets to tie the game at 11 at the end of the period. Jordan Patterson led University with seven points in the quarter.
Payton Seay scored on a fast break off a nifty pass from Kamryn Washington to give University their last lead of the game at 13-11. Layla Gold hit a three pointer for Cathedral to put the Irish up 14-13 and the Indianapolis squad did not trail for the rest of the game.
University was within 18-17 midway through the second period on a Washington rebound basket, but Cathedral controlled the rest of the period leading 32-19 at halftime. Any doubt was removed in third period as Cathedral outscored University 22-7 to take a commanding 54-26 entering the fourth quarter.
Freshman Taylor Seay came off the bench to lead University in scoring with 11 points, including all seven Trailblazer points in the fourth quarter. Junior Payton Seay had nine points and 10 rebounds.
Cathedral was led by Kate Bremer with 14 points, Gold had 13 and Darryn Ely with 12.
Both teams are 2-2 on the season.
University is back in action Tuesday evening when it hosts Brebeuf Jesuit. The Trailblazers game with the Indianapolis Homeschool Wildcats originally scheduled for Friday evening has been rescheduled for noon at Saturday, Dec. 18.
