University opened play at Sectional 58 by beating Providence Cristo Rey 20-0 in five innings Wednesday at Bethesda Christian.
The Trailblazers scored eight runs in the first inning. Matt Moore hit a three-run home run in the third inning; he totaled four RBI for the game. Kolton Stevens had an RBI double in the first inning, and Ben Westerkamm hit a double as well. Stevens, Moore and Tyler Galyean all had two hits, Stevens drove in three runs.
Nate Shatkowski and Jacob Lange combined for a no-hitter. Shatkowski got the win, pitching three innings and striking out eight. Lange relieved him in the fourth, tossing four strikeouts.
University is 16-10-1 and will play a Saturday semi-final game between the winner of today’s first-round contest between Tindley and Bethesda Christian.
