The Blatchley Nature Study Club, 125 Boulder Drive, Noblesville, invites nature lovers of all ages to join in a guided nature walk to view some of the most diverse varieties of wildflowers in Indiana. Jack-in-the-Pulpit, Dutchman’s Breeches, Blood Root and canopies of May Apples are a few of the varieties you will enjoy while walking the natural and rustic trails.
Two walks will take place: The early bloomers walk is set for Saturday, April 16, and the late bloomers walk for Saturday, April 30. An open house will be held from 1 to 5 p.m. both days.
The Blatchley Nature Study Club is celebrating its centennial this year, and club members are looking forward to what the next 100 years will bring. Read below to find out more . . .
- Monthly meetings: Club members learn about all aspects of nature through presentations by members or guests at the club’s monthly meetings. Meetings are typically the fourth Thursday of the month at the Blatchley clubhouse. Meetings can include club business as well as nature observations as shared by members and their guests.
- Field studies: Typically led by a club member, field studies provide an opportunity for hands-on study of a selected nature topic. The Blatchley Sanctuary is used as the field of study for these investigations.
- Field trips: During the year, club members organize trips to other locations locally or within a few hours’ drive. For example, members have experienced the flight of Whooping Cranes and observed herds of elk.
- Service: Club members have participated in the White River Cleanup, which is conducted annually in September. With the Blatchley Sanctuary located along the White River, this has become a natural extension of the club’s activities.
